I woke up this morning after a revealing dream and read this in a book from my table. "As the prime generator of form 'the point' indicates a position in space. "

"A point extended becomes 'a line' with properties of length direction and position."

"A line extended becomes 'a plane' with properties of length & width, shape, surface, orientation, and position."

"A plane extended becomes 'a volume' with properties of length, width & depth, form & space, surface, orientation, and position.

Paul Klee says, " All pictorial form begins with the point- that sets itself in motion. The point moves - the line comes into being. The first dimension. .. the line shifts to form a plane,  we obtain (a) two dimensional element. In the movement from planes to spaces, the clash of planes gives rise to body. (Three- dimensional).

Paul Klee I disagree with wholeheartedly.

IMHO, He has his perceptions cart in front of the horse backwards. We are and we exist in the body, three dimensional plus time. The architect and his architecture need to begin here, Form condensed in Space & Time into Planes. Which have surface, orientation, shape, and position. Not clashes, which have never 'given rise' to anything.

By means of orientation and position organize the Planes to create a Line. A Line that gives a pleasing esthetic to the user and viewer of the Planes and Body.  A Line that by it's position, length, and direction indicate a Point. A Point which is the architects answer in space and time to the problematic endeavor posed.

These are my musings on the Textbook Form,Space,& Order by Francis D. K. Ching
