Sometimes, make that Often...I take friendship for granted. It is a bad habit. Friends are what holds my life together.   Thank you, thank you, thank you Pat for posting this story. You do not know I am sure...but you grew up in a town (Village-of Ridgewood) that was victim of the Thalidomide Tragedy. Our Mayor and his wife were parents a daughter born them with no arms as a result of this drug. She was an adult when I met her and a wonderful person, amazingly adept at dealing with her handicap.  Five teenage boys and girls died driving against traffic on the Irish superhighway carrying three adult women and a child to the International Airport. And it's not the first time. Teenage boys in Ireland rage against the machine by driving against traffic on the busiest highway in the Country. Teenage boys have always raged against the machine, but this is especially horrific. Equally horrific as taking a loaded weapon into a school and shooting innocent children and bystanders. The 'what to do' problem about teenage boys traditionally has been to enlist them in military groups and arm them and spend their lives for the financial gain of age laden male super-domineering personalities. Or addict them to drugs and send their lives into oblivion. Jesus said the fields are ripe for harvest, but the workers are few. There is no miracle, work out depends on work in. A human race that survives this cancer demands work to pull it from the fire.

 Facing the world. Facing adversity. Using ones mind and body to meet, and hopefully overcome, the obstacles of life. Leads to the greatest personal level of creative energy and achievement.  This is in contrast to a life of sheltered existence, meaning material wealth, which does not challenge the body or mind; but leaves personal creative efforts to the lusts and passions of the body and dreams. 

 The question has to be asked: Did Moses respond to God encountered seeing the burning bush....or something else?  At the burning bush Moses is told to "put off your shoes". As Christians we are told we wear "the shoes of the Gospel of Peace", so Jesus Lord and King of the Jews wears the shoes of the Gospel of Peace, why "put off your shoes?".  The history of Abraham, Issac, and Jacob had been a history of Peace. Shepherds, and when entering Egypt led by Joseph honored and giving high station. As sons of Noah surviving The Flood they lived under The Promise of God, destruction would not come again to the world by flood. But from Moses forward the Hebrews become a people who are trained for military authority and violent taking of land to claim as their own.  Could the voice from the burning bush not have been God, but another? One that only shows it's "back side" and not it's face? One that leads it's subservient stranded in the waste...

 Two things happened today which need my commitment to written word. First, following my failure of social grace at work yesterday I spent several hours of reflection upon how to apologize to my fellow employee Felix. I had injected myself into a conversation he was having with another employee, about yet a third employee. It angered Felix and after sleeping on it and thinking about I came to the realization that I have been self-absorbed and rudely injected myself into Felix's conversation. Completely failing to recognize his private space. Failing to hold my opinions until a time and place where I could voice them to the other employee, to whom they pertained. I am ashamed and hoping to ask Felix formally for his forgiveness.  Secondly this comes upon this 8th day of April 2026 which I realize is just two weeks past what would have been the 50th anniversary of the first marriage I entered with Eileen McAfee-Kendig.
