A man was walking one day. In place he had never seen. A field of grain set high on a land that over looked the sea. And as he walked he could not remember where he had come from or where he was going, but he was immensely happy that he was here, where he was.
He walked toward the precipice that faced the sea to breathe in the ocean air, and as he came close to the cliff another man appeared to be sitting on a stone at the very edge. He approached the man and as he did the man rose and faced him. He wore a simple woven cloth that reached from shoulder to feet and had a belt of leather around the middle. He said the the approaching man, "welcome, I have been waiting for you." "Do you know where you are?"
"I do not" said the man.
"You are at that place where a man speaks to that which made him." "The nameless wonder of wonders that is alpha and omega." "And it speaks to you."
The man stood breathless for moment. Stunned because the thing this man had said defied his reason, but his reason did account for how he had come here, or who or where this place was. His choices were to flee or to accept this man. The peacefulness of this place and this man filled him with a desire to accept. So he did.
"Please speak to me stranger."
The robed stranger began to walk along the cliff, the sea on one side, the fields of grain on the other. The man followed. As they walked the ocean breeze shifted to gently blow into their faces, filling their nostrils with sea air, and lifting their spirits by giving them the feeling of being held aloft of the ground by the breeze.
"Do you know what your life was before you came here?" the stranger asked.
"No I do not remember." the man said.
"You were the leader of a Nation torn by the oppression of men of one color enslaving men of another color."
The man felt a grip upon his heart as he heard this, and a trepidation that what up until now was all peaceful, could turn to torment.
"You took up the reins of an army which fought another in a bloody war to bring the enslavers to give up their claim of domination." "You sent half-a-million men to their deaths."
Now the grip on the man was like a steel vice, but they walked on and he continued to listen.
"You had a son." "And your son was never called into this war." "You are here to take your son up upon this mountain and slay him." "So that your love for me and this eternal place is proven to be your highest love." " And you may dwell here forever."
With this being said, and as they walked a mountain appeared from clouded mist in front of them. And along his side a young boy appeared who looked up at him, and with eyes which looked into his with recognition so compelling he was sure that indeed this was his son.
As well his memories came flooding back...his son, his wife, his home and the war. The terrible, terrible war. The death and destruction. And his complete and total devotion to the eternal being who gave him the strength to endure all these trials. With an immensely heavy heart he took the boys hand and began up the mountain. At the top he stopped and the boy spoke, "papa what shall we do here?"
The man looked down, and the Strangers voice spoke, "on the stone beside you is the knife to slay your son."
The man sick with conflict looked, saw the knife. The red blood of thousands and thousands of soldiers filled his mind. The eyes of his son looked up at him. He picked up the knife.
As he did the Strangers voice spoke out again, "Stop Abraham." "You have proven you love your Alpha and Omega." "Behind you is a ram it's horns caught in a bush." "Take the knife, slay it, and burn it as an offering. Showing your son this sign of contrition." "Take your son and live in peace in this land."
Abraham and his son did so.
History Occupation After rule by the Ottoman Empire ended there in World War I (1914–18), the Gaza area became part of the League of Nations mandate of Palestine under British rule. Before this mandate ended, the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN) in November 1947 accepted a plan for the Arab-Jewish partition of Palestine under which the town of Gaza and an area of surrounding territory were to be allotted to the Arabs. The British mandate ended on May 15, 1948, and on that same day the first Arab-Israeli war began. Egyptian forces soon entered the town of Gaza, which became the headquarters of the Egyptian expeditionary force in Palestine. As a result of heavy fighting in autumn 1948, the area around the town under Arab occupation was reduced to a strip of territory 25 miles (40 km) long and 4–5 miles (6–8 km) wide. This area became known as the Gaza Strip. Its boundaries were demarcated in the Egyptian-Israeli armistice agreement of February 24, 1949. Are you a student?...
