It is a cold dark star-light December 24th and Lt Col Brown was pushing forward on the yoke leveling the B-1 Stealth off at 60,000. At mach 2, twice the speed of sound or in the neighborhood of 1400 mph the crew would be ready to deploy their load in 20 minutes.

The American political Left and Right had finally fractured and when the embassy in China was taken hostage the out-going President launched an nuclear strike on Beijing.

The morning news would have read " US at War with China" and the ghastly holocaust that was Beijing would fill horror stricken people of the world except a lone astronomer Hou Won on Mauna Kea Observatory's main telescope eyed the silhouette of the B1 crossing the face of the full moon.

Knowing the network news anchor Cin Di in New York he wasted no time in relaying the news. Along with his speed and direction calculations that left little doubt Beijing was the bombers target.

The news hit the media with more force than the nuclear warheads.

But despite the combined efforts of the House, Senate, and SCOTUS the now detained President would not issue the vocal stand-down order to the pilot.

It was then Gin Davis fell from his Xbox and stuck his head on the rocking chair his grandma always sat in.

The emergency room was full already with flu victims and patients who had not taken the Covid-19 vaccine but the doctors rushed Gin to the MRI and CAT scans to diagnose his head injury. The room fell silent at the news. Gin was the 10th this week under the age of 8 with a brain tumor

A.J.  Rush was 1st in his class at MIT. Graduating with a medical and engineering degree simultaneously  . His work in nuclear medicine was unrivaled. So much so he had a Secret Service detail where-ever he went to prevent foreign powers from abducting him and his research. This evening it was a good thing he did.

As he was leaving his lab in Massachusetts his detail swept him up unexpectedly and was driving him to an undisclosed location when the limousine TV broadcasted the news of a young boy, one of a shocking new number of children, who were brain tumor cancer victims.  This was a study A J was deeply sensitive to. The story had only just finished when the Breaking News Bulletin announced  the impending attack on Beijing.

As it happens A J was a college lover of Cin Di and chess partner of Hou Won the Astronomer. When he heard the news he called both of them and his NSA handler to offer a solution to stopping the run-away pilot.

A J was diverted to a radio-satellite-telephone facility and put on a secure line with the pilot of the B1 Stealth.

"Look." He said. "I know your commanding officers have told you the situation on the ground here." "I have only one thing to add." " There are children here on the ground with cancerous brain tumors that can be saved by the plutonium in the war-heads of the bombs you are carrying." " The testing is proven here." " You can decide to make a sea of glass of 10 million people and have no home to come home to."  "Or you can bring that life-saving plutonium back here and save thousands of children's lives."

It is 8:00 am Christmas morning. We are with our children and grandchildren., and we are giving thanks for God's Son, His lessons of mercy, and love. And the skies above are clear and boundless.
